The Line

I personally don’t think it is healthy or safe for human beings with depression, Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (AHDH), or autism to participate in The Line shows.

The following is my experience, related from memory. My feelings are not evidence of anything the hosts of The Line would find valid or convincing.

The Line did not break any laws and everything they did is well within their rights, but I am advising people to seriously consider whether it is safe or healthy to call into The Line.

I was invited by one of the hosts of The Line to call into his show.

I faced resistance from three human call screeners and one AI call screener, the last of whom was the host who had invited me.

The third call screener launched into an obscenity-laced angry tirade, starting with "Why did you fucking…".

Even though this was a phone call and the third call screener could not physically attack me, my body instantly reacted in the same manner as when bullies aggressively approached me with similar speech patterns.

I was bullied a lot.

I know the patterns.

I was a premature baby and very much smaller than other children of my own age. My smaller size made me the target of numerous bullies.

Until my first summer as a teenager. A growth spurt brought me to normal height. But didn’t end the bullying. As a teenager and adult I faced more bullies (mostly Christians) over the trivillaity of the clothing that I wore.

I have too much experience with bullies.

I want to make clear that the call screeners have every right to filter the callers to their show in any manner other than race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy, sexual orientation, and gender identity), national origin, age (40 or older), disability, and genetic information.

I want to make clear that the call screeners have every right to their speech as long as they do not make actual threats. There were no threats.

When I personally experienced the angry rant, the horror of the experince of callers came into focus. I better understood why the callers abused on their show are often so unsteady in their responses.

I suspect that many of the victims of the angry rants mention the swearing because they are partially in shock and the swearing is the easiest way to identify the aggressive, overwhelming waves of angry bullying.

I suspect that many of the victims of the angry rants ramble because they are disoriented by the bullying. They are not necessarily trying to evade answering questions.

I personally think that the bullying on the show might drive someone with depression into deeper depression, possibly even suicide.

I personally think that the bullying on the show might create disorienting and highly unpleasant sensory overload.

My own personal experience was that it took me almost 24 hours to stop thinking that I was a horrible person, unacceptable for life in normal society. I was slow to realize that they are bullies.

the screening

The first two human screeners, as well as an AI screener, asked me for my name, location, pronouns, and topic. The third human screener asked me what god I was claiming existed.

The first two human call screeners resisted my answers to the questions about my location. The first and third human screeners resisted my claims answers about my name. The third call screen resisted my pronouns. The third human screener asserted that my god wasn’t a god and additionally dismissed my first reason for claiming that god as “irrelevant”.

the bureaucracy

The call screen used modern Western militarized bureaucracy, which I reject because its primary purpose is to administer the control of a small number of more powerful people over a large group of less powerful people.

I will discuss the problems with bureaucracy in general and the militarized Western version in another article.

name

I told the first call screener that I wanted to be anonymous. He insisted that I needed to provide a “fake name” (his words). He suggested two common names from England, both of which I rejected. I blurted out the choice of “Alice”, as that is the most common placeholder name in computer science papers.

I told the second call screener my actual name.

The third call screener demanded to know why I used two different names. I stated something to effect that I intended to by anonymous but gave up on that and switched to my birth name because I was feeling braver about being on their show.

location

The first and second call screeners challenged my location, both demanding the name of US state.

I held firm on “Acjachemen”, the Spanish writing for the Native name of the land I live on.

I view the United States of America and its member states as immoral, unethical, White European Christian, capitalist, fascist, imperialist, genocidal, colonial occupiers of Native lands.

I have in the past worked with leaders of the Navajo, Lakota, and Hawaiʻian nations resisting the US government, the Great White breaker of treaties, and advocating for the peaceful, nonviolent, voluntary dissolution of the government of the United States and restoration of the legitimate Native nations.

I will discuss problems with the United States of America in numerous future articles.

pronouns

I have previousl;y contemplated the practice of choosing pronouns. I know that my personal favorite choices would upset mainstream Americans.

The police have called me “sir” and “ma’am”. What do I care what my oppressors call me?

The set of pronouns I gave to the first call screener were “ze” and “zim”.

“Ze” is one of the first attempts at gender neutral pronouns in the English language, first recorded in 1864 by J.W.L.

There are several proposed choices for the possessive and reflexive version with “hir” and “zir” being common. I chose the less common “zim”.

The second set of pronouns I gave were “he”, “she”, and “it”, which are the standard first person singular pronouns in the English language.

genders

Most languages have no genders. Tuyuca is estimated to have 50-140. Ngan'gityemerri has up to 15 genders. Pairs, such as common and neuter or animate and inanimate, are common.

English, as an Indo-European language, has three, commonly called masculine, feminine, and neuter.

If you look closer, you will notice that “he” references both men and all humans. This used to be much more common. Older copies of Grey’s Anatomy refer to all humans with he, him, and his, including the entire chapter on female reproductive organs. His vagina. His uterus. His His ovaries.

“He” is the default gender for all of humanity. Male adults are the English language default version of our species.

“She” is a secondary, subservient part of humanity. More specifically, the designation for the property of a man.

“It” is primarily for the inanimate, but also includes living animals, plants, and fungi. Until recently even well-loved pets were commonly referred to as “it”.

Important property is referred to as “she”. A man’s wife, boat, car, ship, plane, guitar, favorite tool, even country. All “she”.

Another often unnoticed gener is royalty, as in the royal “we”.

The Indo-European languages carry the roots of human slavery, warfare, the roots of a caste or class system where a few priests and royalty ruthlessly rule over the common people like herds of cattle.

truth

Before I ramble too far, let me return to the topic of The Line.

Because the hosts keep chanting about truth, I wrongly assumed that their shows were intended as pursuit of truth.

I missed the clues of side comments about ratings and it being their job.

The harsh verbal abuse is intentional.

They are generating drama because drama increases the ratings and the ratings increase profits and the profits are the only goal of capitalism.

The Line is raw capitalism at its ugliest.

The Line does not care about truth.

The Line does not care about any harm they do.

The Line only cares about money.

I am disappointed that I thought The Line was about truth.

That’s my mistake.

Whomsoever is fooled only has themselves to blame.
